Are there any?
Some people think there's no lesbians in Greece, or at least there's no lesbians that dare say their names in
public.
But we've seen them, and they keep appearing..

activist, translator, - has been a member of the Lesbian group at Romanoy Melodoy str. (late 70s?-early 80s) - been a member of AKOE when that was "the" greek LGBT organisation (mostly 80s) - been a member of the "EOK" since it was founded from former AKOE members, held various offices in there, and been the vice-president until 2003. - the publisher of the Amfi magazine, 2nd period, 1987-1991 - on 1991 she was under trial, found guilty and sentenced to 5 months in prison and a big fine, under the Metaxas law of the 1930s about proselytism (which is still valid!), for publishing the answer of a woman to a reader letter (decision 67871/91 of greek courts) - and finaly pronounced not guilty on the court of appeal, after AI intervened and said they would support her as a prisoner of conscience ( report of the incident in one of many AI-related sites and their copies). - we've seen her speaking about lesbian & gay rights on tv, the first time on December 1990 on Ant1 tv chanel, and some more times later .. - the producer and speaker of the lesbian/gay radio show (used to be called "Pink Panthers" back then), 1996-99. - chief editor and writer of the Deon magazine since it first started, 1997 - the Athens lesbian group (LOA), started thanks to her initiative and organising abilities - one of the founding members of one of the largest greek lesbian e-communities: GreekLesbiansCommunity since Dec. 2000 (requires subscription) - and here's another one http://clubs.pathfinder.gr/GreekLesbiansCommunity (a lot of the contents accessible to non-subscribers, in Greek) - one of the speakers at the discussion about representation of homosexuality (in films), at the Panorama of homosexual pride, Thessaloniki, 14 May 2003. - one of the few female speakers in most of our rainbow forums in 2003& 2004, and hostess the November 2003 rainbow forum along with Maria Cyber. - a speaker at the Antigone round table, November 2003 on Discrimination against LGBT people under the light of the new social and political european framework - carrying the LOA banner in LGBT blocks, at marches for the Polytechnio, Athens 17 November 2003, & 2004 (see photo) - a member of the administrative council of the "OLKE" (homosexuals, lesbians community of Greece) society, 2004-2005 - supported and presented the AI-Greece proposition to the Greek council for human rights (EEDA), Dec. 2004, along with mr. Vallianatos - has published a lot of lesbian-related articles on the internet, Deon magazine, Amfi magazine, and has had public interviews for various media.. (some links to her articles, in greek), a lot of those are available in her clubs. - an active participant and spokesperson at the first downtown & out-proud Athens Pride 2005 and public parade. MariaCyber (Katsikadakou) - contact: info@lesbian.gr activist, radio show producer, promotion of friendly venues, organizer of lgbt screenings, parties .. and more.. - the radio show producer and speaker of the only LGBT radio show we've had during the last 5 years, we were listening to her informing the Athens public about lgbt matters every Thursday night.. since 1999. (until the radio station, "Epikinonia 94FM" stoped the show, after the discriminating fine from the broadcast aythority Jan. 2005) - publishing informative and political articles at Deon magazine and mainstream press (Symbol/Ependytis, Athens Voice..), and her weekly newsletters and on here webpage www.lesbian.gr - professionaly promoting LGBT bysiness - we've seen her on tv.. one of the few greek women to have spoken publickly about lg rights - participations in international happenings, like the cultural happenings at the Gay Olympics, etc. - the founder of the lesbian cultural group Cyberdykes, she's been organising lesbian and lgbt parties since the AKOE era (1980's) - one of the very-few co-organisers of older public athens pride events Athens Gay Pride 1996, 1998 - for a few years, the only lgbt information available was Maria's newsletters and radio show. |

film director - one of the two founders of the Corfu lesbian and gay group that started on her initiative, on autumn 2002 - her queer/lesbian short films have been screened at greek and international film festivals and happenings: "Closets are for clothes" (here she is one of the actresses), "Aruhi, (Once upon a time, her first film)", "the Red Apple" (Kokkino milo)". - she was an active participant on the 1st Tokyo Gay Pride, has been organising the lesbin festivals of Saitama for 8 years, participated in organising the women festival (Tokyo), an art festival with various sections, including a lesbian section & was publishing a newsprint in both Japanese and English. Heleni Tsaklari an activist, used to be an early member of EOK, and a founding member of the group of female cyclists that made group bike excurssions to the amazement of local people to see such long lines of modern amazons.. She was an active participant of the lgbt Pride events in Athens in late 20th c., and continues to march proudly in the open Athens Pride events that started in June 2005. .. some more when we manage an interview..
