MIND YOU :
We 're trying to inform you about friendly places in these Sapphic Guides. Most of our listed venues are just places frequented by sapphites & friends (unless explicitly stated otherwise), sometimes in the knowledge of the owner or a couple of people working there, sometimes not, which means mainly that you may want to check out those places, in case you meet some friendly women there.
The major reality in this country is not so friendly and you should be on your guard, especially in public demonstrations of affection and in dealing with over-friendly heterosexual men, the major reason of their friendliness being their great wish to taste lesbian flesh (and to teach their perceived "real" manhood ). All heterosexual men frequented venues would love to be lesbian hung-out places for the same reason.
The supposed myth that "greek men like to touch a lot" is only true regarding young and/or beautiful female tourists, and it's so easy for you to blow out that buble: just watch how they avoid touching any other greek person, without even thinking about it. They may show-off touching their male buddy on the forearm or shoulder (athlete-style) if you chalenge them on the subject, but you keep watching their unconscious moves and make your own conclusions.
How about women? In most places women will be friendly to all foreigners that treat them friendly (allowing for the occasional hormone and overworking problems). Please smile and nod friendly to all the lonely older women, especially in small places, they need this more than anything. A small but importand percentage of women feel chalenged and show agressiveness to signs of lesbianism.
Some closeted women are very happy to see lesbian couples, but they don't have and way to show it. They may smile a lot in your presence when no-one else is looking or at the slightest hint, and that's about the only sign you may get.
About geting involved with greek women: this is a survival issue and you're on your own here. Some young women may feel more free and safe in a summer affair with a foreigner. Mostly they're very closeted in their own place of residence, and may show uncontrolable wildness when traveling themselves away from it.
In Eressos, there are people that don't feel well at all about the international lesbian invasion to their vilage, and there have been dangerous incidents in the not-so far past, so better avoid finding yourself alone with unknown men and avoid braking the law.

Athens Pride: please try to be there, if you can. This year it's in Saturday, June 23rd, 2007 @ Klafthmonos sqr. in the city center. Prefer to buy your beers from the street kiosks across the street, as they tend to be cheaper there, and pretend you don't see the business-like flavour of the feast, nor the men who shout the loudest. You just focus on the generally more quiet women.

Thank you for visiting !
