H ILGA-Europe καλεί την ευρωπαϊκή ''Ενωση να διακόψει την οικονομική βοήθεια προς την Αίγυπτο, μέχρι να σταματήσει η δίωξη των ομοφυλόφιλων

Η ILGA-Europe χαιρετά την απόφαση του Ευρωπαϊκού κοινοβουλίου σχετικά με την δίωξη των ομοφυλόφιλων ανδρών στην Αίγυπτο και καλεί την ευρωπαϊκή ''Ενωση να διακόψει την οικονομική βοήθεια προς την Αίγυπτο μέχρι να σταματήσει η δίωξη των ομοφυλόφιλων.

Χτες, 10 Απριλίου, το Ευρωπαϊκό κοινοβούλιο έκανε έκκληση στις Αιγυπτιακές αρχές να σταματήσουν κάθε δίωξη πολιτών λόγω ομοφυλοφιλίας και να απαγορέψουν διακρίσεις λόγω σεξουαλικών προτιμήσεων. (Κοινή δράση για επίλυση των παραβιάσεων ανθρώπινων δικαιωμάτων στην Αίγυπτο, έγγραφα: B5-0212/2003, B5-0215/2003, B5-0216/2003, B5-0219/2003, B5-0224/2003).

Η παραπάνω απόφαση υπενθύμισε στην Αίγυπτο την συμφωνία συνεργασίας που υπογράφηκε τον Νοέμβριο 2001, η οποία συμπεριλαμβάνει παράγραφο που απαιτεί τον σεβασμό των ανθρώπινων δικαιωμάτων και των δημοκρατικών αρχών. Το κοινοβούλιο τόνισε ότι αυτό αποτελεί βασική αξία της συμφωνίας, και κάλεσε την Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή και το Ευρωπαϊκό συμβούλιο να εκφράσουν τις ανησυχίες τους στις Αιγυπτιακές αρχές, ιδιαίτερα σχετικά με την κατάσταση των ομοφυλόφιλων στην Αίγυπτο.

..(την ιστορία την ξέρετε λίγο-πολύ .. από τον Μάιο του 2001 που η αιγυπτιακή αστυνομία συνέλαβε 52 άνδρες σε επιδρομή στο πλοίο "Queen Boat" .. μέχρι την εμπαικτική επανάληψη της δίκης που καταδίκασε 21 από αυτούς σε βαρύτερες ποινές από την αρχική δίκη .. ) ..

Η Jackie Lewis, συν-προεδρεύουσα της ILGA-Europe δήλωσε χτες βράδυ: "Καλωσορίζουμε την υπενθύμιση του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου προς τις Αιγυπτιακές αρχές για την υποχρέωση σεβασμού των ανθρώπινων δικαιωμάτων και των δημοκρατικών αρχών της συμφωνίας συνεργασίας τους. 'Ομως η δίωξη ομοφυλόφιλων ανδρών στην Αίγυπτο συνεχίζεται παρά αρκετές τέτοιες αποφάσεις και παρεμβάσεις από κυβερνήσεις, κοινοβούλια, και διεθνείς οργανισμούς. Επίσης, οι παραβιάσεις των ανθρώπινων δικαιωμάτων από την Αιγυπτιακή κυβέρνηση δεν περιορίζονται στις διώξεις ομοφυλόφιλων ανδρών.
Είναι φανερό ότι χρειάζονται ισχυρότερα μέτρα, και γι αυτό καλούμε την Ευρωπαϊκή ''Ενωση να αναστείλει την οικονομική βοήθεια που παρέχει στην Αίγυπτο σύμφωνα με τη συμφωνία συνεργασίας, μέχρι να γίνουν σημαντικές βελτιώσεις στον φάκελο ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων της Αιγύπτου. Αν δεν χρησιμοποιηθούν τέτοια μέτρα, οι αναφορές στα ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα που αναφέρονται στις αναπτυξιακές συμφωνίες της Ευρωπαϊκής 'Ενωσης με τρίτες χώρες θα συνεχίσουν να αγνοούνται ατιμωρητί.
