Greek Press & Media
LGBT & friendly media, & "other" .. (theme started April 2004) there's a couple of things we have to tell about the Greek media.. a. there is some LGBT press around lately, b. some daily newspapers seem rather friendly to human rights, and c. other media attitudes are out-racist or just indeferent. |

Greek LGBT Media * papers * magazines * radio - Gay & Lesbian Radio Show, weekly 2hour RadioShow by Maria Cyber. Very friendly to all LGBT people and groups. Slightly partial to lgbt-rights issues & to maistream music related subjects, especially if they involve lgbt people.. Every Thursday night, starting at 23:00, at 94,00FM in Northern Athens areas *** the weekly Gay & Lesbian Radio Show has been stoped by the municipal radio station (Jan 2005), due to a fine of 5.000 euros imposed on the show by the broadcasting council (Dec. 2004), on the grounds of "low quality" !!! if there's anything else around, in print, radio or tv - please tell us and we will add it asap |
|
friendly Greek mainstream Media we can't guarantee anything, but the following media have given examples of sensitivity aroung human rights, including LGBT rights * newspapers
* TV
free alternative media

|
Greek Media general attitude Mostly, LGBT people don't exist in the greek mainstream media.
* There's also those "live talk-shows" on TV, always on their visibility statistics race.. and occasionally just plain
trying to avert the public from the real economic, social and political issues the public is
usually not allowed to know too much about..

reporting discriminating media releases * here we will report every media-release discriminating against the lgbt community - the kiss-in protest (November 14, 2003) at the entrance of the national radio-tv watchdog was reported by Reuters and most international press .. but the only greeknewspaper reporting it shortly was the English (international" version of Kathimerini paper site. - the same site in greek seems to have never heard anything about it (photo & relative links) - * Certain papers will keep making undocumented huge "reports" against lesbians or gays and whatever suppossedly "breaks" the traditional greco-christian extremely-discriminating "morals", .. and they will keep doing it, as long as they're getting away with it. - last instance reported to us: the Espresso daily paper front page on August 1st, 2006
shouting about some unidentified "LESBIAN ORDER", in lettering slightly bigger than their own paper-title,
supposedly "proselytising" married ladies, into destroying their husbands! - using "black" initiation
ceremonies and "sick" sexual games.. including their girl-childs !!!! - in Athens.
See the archived picture of the tabloid first page, in online archives (click on the image for a bigger one). Nobody turns a hair. Nobody will ask them to document those accusations, no-one is able to press charges for social group defamation, as there's no law supporting any such proccess.. The freedom of the press has no limits when breaking other peoples rights, it is free to do so without provocation, it is free to monsterize and bury away any social group they hate or are afraid of.. Even the law about not-exciting social hatreds only protects against racial discrimination. That's about the only discrimination this country seems to have even heard of, the only one protected against. Please send us in relative information |
