we can't guarantee anything, but the following media have given examples of sensitivity aroung human rights, including LGBT rights

* newspapers
Eleytherotypia - Iospress, often presents some equality-justice and other "hush-hush" subjects, inluding some LGBT rights issues.
Athens Voice, a free weekly paper, includes some lgbt clubing and commercial info and adds
Time Out Athens has an lgbt Athens-info page (we grade them about 60-70% in aciracy of information provided, late 2004)

* TV
There's not exactly any friendly TV chanel, and they rather use homosexuality as some kind of spice to boom their viewing stats, or when they need to avert public opinion from really important matters (like in most other parts of the world..) - especially when they invite the usual church-persons or supposed over-religious zealots and other extra-homophobes to publicly exorcize homosexuality.. and on the very thin line of offering cause for pressing charges against them.. ie. the usual shcool-parents representative is the sworn worst homophobic person there must be around.. and the head of a small group of primary school parents he's made, but they present him like he's some kind of elected represantative of the national assicoation of parents of all the underage.. and when some other parents representative dares speak publickly of homosexuals like "they're just people, and they pose no threat to our childrem", then this one will never-ever be invited to speak on the air again ..
Then occasionally there may be some old friendly movied on the air in the very small hours, when almost everyone is asleep, and mostly without having been announced .. Or some live talk-show host may really be indeferent to both homosexuals and homophobes, and really not support either.. of very seldom, some new tv-person will mistake the usual pronouncements about free speech and open-mindness pronounced by their employer for real.. and try a realy friendly approach to gay rights.. which will usually result in their very-quick dissapearance..

free alternative media
Athens Indymedia hosts our anouncements and articles in a mostly friendly mood, with a minimum of homophobic comments by regular visitors (compared to the avarage greek homophobia !)

Mostly, LGBT people don't exist in the greek mainstream media.
* Then there's the occasional gay-male sterotypes that used to be supposed to be funny a couple of centuries back.

* There's also those "live talk-shows" on TV, always on their visibility statistics race.. and occasionally just plain trying to avert the public from the real economic, social and political issues the public is usually not allowed to know too much about..
That's when they raise the homosexuality issue.. always inviting church-people, preferably ones claiming to be sex-therapists.. to misinform about the usual religious c**p about homosexuality supposedly being a disease, and that homosexual people are equal to perverts and ..
Occasionaly they also try inviting lgbt activists (or calling them during the "live"-show), in which show the host does not even make the slightest effort to try to seem non-discriminating and polite to the lgbt activist..
We hope we will have more detailed concrete data on such examples soon.

We must mention the few newspapers that freequently publish press realeases or/and their own research on equality issues, including women's issues and queer ones. This is
(a) "Eleftherotypia", a liberal daily paper, where it is mostly personal workings in trying to promote queer issues, where other reporters still publish the occasional homophobic hint every so often.
(b) Avgi, pertaining to the Synaspismos left-wing political party the only one openly supporting most minorities for decades, and
(c) minor leftish papers .. This is an examlpe of a bigger issue of some people thinking thet being queer equals identifying with the left political areas and that right-wing queers are unacceptable or untolerated in the very few groups we have. The fact that the greek communist party seems to be more homophobic that the greek church seems irrelevant to those people. In fact the church did not expel people for being homosexuals.

there is always the well-known type of supposedly "good christian" papers, that always happen to print the most outrageous sexual gossipps about every famous person.. and when they are out of news, they will make up a new story staring the "intolerated" and "forbiden" lesbians or/and homosexuals.. See below in "Reporting discriminating media".
